The Id
In Freudian psychoanalytic theory, one of the three agencies of
the human personality, along with the ego and superego. The oldest of these
psychic realms in development, it contains the psychic content related to
the primitive instincts of the body, notably sex and aggression, as well
as all psychic material that is inherited and present at birth.
The Id is the musical project of Seamus Kelly. Based in Churchville,
PA and Dublin, Ireland, The Id is the collective of musicians Seamus performs
with at any given time.
Seamus was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 2000, he set off for Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where he still
lives the majority of the year. A member of several garage bands while in
high school, Seamus began writing songs at the age of 16 after teaching himself
to play guitar.
After playing several shows on his own in Dublin and receiving positive
reviews for his constantly developing music and fun stage presence, he set
his mind to recording a selection of his ever growing list of original songs
in the summer of 2003.
The night following his 22nd birthday, a quite hungover Seamus Kelly
went to Slap Studios in Philadelphia and recorded the bulk of twelve songs
between midnight and 8 am. After two Saturday afternoons of putting on finishing
touches and mixing his recordings with the studio's intern Jeff Anderson,
the outcome was the ten song "demo" Stars are Stars. Nights are Dark.
What's next for The Id? Upon returning to Dublin this September, Seamus
hopes to solidify a steady if unorthodox band. He will be playing gigs in
Dublin including monthly Trinity FM Sessions that he will be organizing as
a fund raiser for the campus radio station. Stars are Stars. Nights are Dark.
